The star has given the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize winnings to the MVT, which functions to protect the UK's grassroots music venues.

He was presented with the award on mid-October as his new release his work was named the best record of the previous year.

He has chosen to donate the funds to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the essential function local spots had in his initial steps.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing my current career if it hadn't been for all the performances I played around the area, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," remarked Sam Fender. "These spaces are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these venues have permanently closed – roughly one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

Recently, well-known musicians like the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by adding a small levy to their ticket costs, which benefits smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also joined in, generating over £100k on his live tour to assist 38 local spots across the UK.

The donation assisted spaces that were facing possible closure due to difficulties caused by flooding, blazes and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, court cases and neighbor objections.

Additional spaces were granted funding support in upgrading amenities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted musicians and concertgoers.

"The idea that revenue from performances in big venues backs the local stages, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just logical," the star has stated.

The musician is not the first artist to donate his honor winnings to worthy causes.

Back when Pulp received the prize in the year 1996 for their release their work, frontman Cocker announced that the band would give their cash to the charity War Child.

During 2002, artist she split her prize between several charities, including the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also donated a grand to my local community centre, to their gymnastics program, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they needed updated gear," Ms Dynamite explained to the media.

Two years ago, they gave their winnings to the youth organization that supported their group, alongside other local music groups.

Also the 1994 recipients the group gave their winnings to a MS organization after a acquaintance was identified with the disease.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," said vocalist Small. "The money was the extra but we could do without the bonus, because we had the main prize. So our success touched somebody else's life."

In the past week, the trust shared it had saved a couple of small stages in that region, by transferring them to community ownership.

The first in that area and the other in Bristol were acquired under the public acquisition program, which is supported by Arts Council England and enthusiasts who buy "shares" in the venues.
